The Walers Day Club is a joint venture between the Department of Veterans Affairs and Richmond RSL Sub-Branch. It provides a once a week get together on Wednesdays between 10am and 2 pm for older people who are still living in the community but who are unable to attend more active programs. Members receive morning tea and lunch, take part in a variety of activities, and enjoy occasional talks, lectures & entertainment. The RSL bus provides transport to and from members’ homes if they need it. Many Day Club members believe they are more happy, healthy and active due to their involvement in the Club.
The name of the Day Club, Walers, commemorates the breed of the horses that went overseas with the Australian Light Horse in World War One many of which were born and bred in New South Wales hence the name ‘Waler’. Contact with the Club can be made by phoning the coordinator, Mrs. Tracey Kelleher, on 0418 684 102.
